3 Celebrities with green homes

These 3 celebrities are just a few of a growing bunch of stars who are greening their behaviours and making more sustainable economic choices. 1. Bryan Cranston In August of last year Breaking Bad star, Bryan Cranston had his dream of a green beach house in Los Angeles realised.

“We have a social responsibility to live this way,” Cranston is quoted as saying. “Yes, it might take a little more time or effort, but we are not asking people to sacrifice or suffer. We are asking people to live in harmony with these concepts.”

Very wise words, we think! Green features in the modest 2,450 square foot, 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath house include radiant heating, solar panels, solar hot water, and sustainable, reusable materials. The net-zero energy home is the first in Ventura County to receive LEED Platinum certification and recognition from the Passive House Alliance U.S.

2. Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey is best known for his role in "Grey's Anatomy" - you may not know him as well for his work supporting sustainable and renewable energy projects around the world.

The Dempsey family live in a very unique tin house designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry in 1968 and purchased by Dempsey in 2009. They have had a former riding arena in their backyard converted into an organic produce garden. This including: stables and coops complete with rescued animals.

Dempsey explains of the green features of his home, “I have found that natural metal roofs and siding such as zinc or tin offer advantages for sustainable solutions on several levels,” he said. “This roof and tin siding surfaces are an excellent choice for rainwater collection while also providing an opportunity to integrate concealed solar thermal collectors for water and space heating. Tin and zinc roofs and siding are highly durable and easily recyclable — reducing future impacts on landfills.”

Wait - Did he just become even more attractive? Is that possible? I think so.
