Listen to the women making change
Our Campaign - A registered charity founded in Australia in 2009, we inspire women to get on with climate action, cut pollution from our daily lives, live more sustainably and be a powerful voice for change.
Our Target - Recruit 1 Million Women to collectively cut 1 million tonnes of C02 the main greenhouse gas pollutant causing temperature to rise globally, threatening people and the environment with dangerous instability in the climate.
Your Goal - We ask you to make a personal goal to cut a min 1 tonne of CO2 pollution out of your daily life within a year of joining. It's easy and we show you how.
HOW TO CUT A TONNE
Our activity centre has over 50 ways for cutting pollution in your life - home, food, shopping and getting around. Choose activities that work for you. To stay on course to reach your 1 tonne savings you can track your progress anytime and post items in our discussion forums.
Im willing to make a change
Meet some of the women who are making a difference
I passionately believe a million women will tell a million more and lead a million communities into action.
It's up to us to make the world a more sustainable place for future generations. This campaign gives us the tools to make this happen.
For me personal is political and caring women can make this happen by taking one step at a time.
Nothing creates community change faster than a group of enthusiastic, determined women. In our dramatically changing climate, this is our moment, and our campaign.
I'm leading change for the better for my generation who will feel the full impacts of climate change.
Every woman wants to do what she can for her children's future.
I'm proud that my song Courageous is the 1MW anthem as it's about women being strong and committed and that's a powerful force to be reckoned with.
To work alongside other women of such commitment, energy and warmth gives me hope for our world.
My generation needs to take action now as we will be living through the affects of climate change. This campaign helps me do this.
1 Million Women provides a meaningful way of connecting our staff and students. It empowers my University to take action.
I'm honoured to be part of a dynamic campaign that can really make a difference to the way people live their lives.
I'm involved because I think it's a brilliant way to break down a massive, overwhelming problem into something personal and achievable.
Here are a few of our CO2 saving activities
Within the activity centre there are over 50 CO2 saving activities that you can chose from. They cover household, food, transport, flights, shopping and renewable energy. Here are just a few.
Say 'NO' to wasteful packaging, plastic bags and bottled water.
Reject or cut back on these bad-for-the-environment items: over-packaged products, non-recyclable packaging, plastic bags and bottled water when tap water is available. As consumers we have the power to say NO. Save up to 150kg of C02pollution.
Reduce red meat in your diet.
Manage your weekly diet to include lots of cereals, fruits and vegetables, and cutting out one red meat meal a week, you can save approx. 195kg of C02 in a year and 10,000 litres of water.
Reduce wasting food by managing it better every day
Up to 30% of food we buy is wasted, at an estimated national cost of $5 billion-plus a year. Cut down on waste by not letting food go out of date, avoiding over-catering and looking after any leftovers. Save up to 200kg of CO2 pollution.
Reuse everything you can & save money by avoiding over-consumption
Everything we buy has its own CO2 pollution story and every year an estimated $5billion is spend of stuff we rarely or never use Take up the personal challenge to find reuse options wherever you can: refillable coffee mugs and water bottles, reusable food storage containers, second hand items, rechargeable batteries, and a lot more.
